SMART EXPORT GUARANTEE - SOLAR PV

The Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) came into effect from the 1st of January 2020 and is used in conjunction with Solar PV installations. It is a scheme where if you have a Solar PV system you are guaranteed to receive a minimum amount for each unit of electricity you export to the grid.

To be eligible for the SEG you will need:

  • A MCS certified Solar PV installation or another form of a small-scale electrical generation.

  • A smart meter.

  • An agreement with an electricity supplier (licensee) to pay you for the electricity you supply to the grid.

A Solar Panel installation will qualify in most cases for the SEG.

BOILER UPGRADE SCHEME

AIR SOURCE HEAT PUMPS AND GROUND SOURCE HEAT PUMPS

The UK government has announced its plan to decarbonise the nation through the Heat and Buildings Strategy.

The Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) is a UK Government initiative to encourage more people in England and Wales by providing grants to property owners to replace existing fossil fuel heating with more efficient, low carbon heating systems including air source heat pumps, ground source heat pumps and, in limited circumstances, biomass boilers.

The BUS will run for 3 years from April 2022 to April 2025. The Government has set aside a budget of £450 million under this scheme and aims to help existing small domestic buildings transition to low carbon heating systems for heating their homes. These grants can help property owners overcome the upfront cost of low carbon heating technologies.

The scheme was formerly known as the Clean Heat Grant and replaces the Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) which ended on 31st March 2022.

Green Home Energy can offer installations of Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHP) and Ground Source Heat Pumps (GSHP) that will qualify for payments under this scheme.

For an eligible installation there will be a one-off payment on completion of the installation of

  • £7,500 towards air source heat pumps and biomass boilers.

  • £7,500 towards ground source heat pumps.

This grant needs to be claimed by the installer on completion. The grant value will be deducted from the quote upfront so the homeowner will pay only the net sum to the installer who will claim the BUS grant from Ofgem upon completion.

Eligibility

The key requirements for the grant are that:

Your property must be a home or small non-domestic building in England or Wales.

The maximum installation capacity of 45kWth covers the vast majority of these properties.

Your property must have a valid Energy Performance Certificate with no outstanding recommendations for loft or cavity wall insulation. This is because your heating system will work more efficiently with these insulation measures in place.

The commissioning date of your low carbon heating system must be on or after 1 April 2022.

Biomass boilers are only eligible in properties that are both in a rural location and not connected to the gas grid.

You must be fully replacing an existing fossil fuel system such as an oil or gas boiler or an electric heating system such as storage or panel heaters. Funding will not be available for the replacement of existing low carbon heat systems.

New-build homes and social housing are not eligible for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, although self-build properties are eligible

VAT

From 1 April 2022 to 31 March 2027, there is 0% VAT on the installation of energy-saving materials including heat pumps.
